The promised smooth landing never happened. Davy punched the control panel, trying to get air under the shuttle with no luck. A bog of mud and damp grass cradled the ship as it slowly sank.
Jendra popped the hatch, filling the hold with thick mist. That’s how the spores got in.
Jendra and the Cafferty twins went limp, unconscious but alive. Davy still wore his helmet, so he was awake when the vines crept inside. They coiled around the twins’ ankles, pulling them into the mist.
