The debate over the soul's purpose waged for generations. Elders trained their children on the finer points of their position, showing them the ancient tomes of record. When a centrist group coalesced, it was quickly absorbed into the original factions and the resulting rhetorical void was filled with antagonistic rhetoric and violence.
Soon a third ideology began to proliferate, and to the surprise of all, neither faction could subsume its fervor. It passed among the youngest and oldest, those at the edges of time and civilization. Only when the fires descended from the sky, was the soul's purpose ultimately fulfilled.
